Prof. Dr. Galal M. Said, president of Fayoum University, and Dr. Tony Frank, Colorado State University Provost signed an agreement of academic cooperation between the two universities for the coming five years.
The agreement will facilitate cooperative academic activities and strengthen the international context of research and education for students and faculty at both universities. Moreover, it includes exchanging of the faculty staff in the academic tasks, receiving postgraduate studies of assistant lecturers from Fayoum University to pursue PhDs in fields of agriculture, engineering, human sciences, computers and science, as well as paying visits by Licentiate and BA students during summer holiday.
The agreement had been signed during the president's visit to Colorado State University according to an invitation from the university provost.

President of Fayoum University visits CSU

Dr. Galal M. Said, President of Fayoum University in Fayoum, Egypt, is visiting CSU today for a series of meetings to explore new collaborative opportunities between CSU and Fayoum University. The highlight of his visit will be to sign an International Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU) in a special ceremony with Provost Tony Frank. The IMOU will facilitate cooperative academic activities and strengthen the international context of research and education for students and faculty at both universities.
Since 1976, Fayoum University has been a public institution within the University of Cairo. In August 2005, it was established as an independent campus with 2,000 faculty members and enrollment of 25,000 students. The city of Fayoum is an oasis located approximately 63 miles southwest of Cairo and is noted for its agricultural production and tourism.
Professor Omnia El-Hakim, Director of Colorado Alliance for Minority Participation (CO-AMP), said "I hope this collaboration will open new doors for CSU students who are interested in research opportunities that exist only in Egypt such as Ecology, Environmental and Water Resources impacts of the River Nile, Arabic Literature and Islamic/Egyptian Archeology."
