    Science School signs cooperation agreement with EMISAL  

    As part of the activities executed by the Faculty of Science in the field of Community Service and Environment Development, a cohort of students paid a visit to the Egyptian Salts & Minerals Co.(EMISAL) on Tuesday 13 December 2011. The students were accompanied by Dean Ahmed Gaber Shedid, Vice Dean for Education and Students’ Affairs Refaat Mohammad Ali, and Vice-Dean for Community Service and Environment Development Hadeer Bakir. Upon their arrival, the cohort was received by Gen. Atef Hamad, EMISAL’s Chairman of Board of Directors, Abdel Latif Al Kordy, Managing Director, and Hassan Shehata, Director General. Al Kordy gave a lecture on how to get rid of salinity of Lake Qarun. He also said : “EMISAL extracts salts from Lake Qarun as follows Anhydrous sodium sulphate (Na2SO4), with a production capacity of 120 000 T/Y, Sodium Chloride (NaCl) with a production capacity of 150 000 T/Y, and Magnesium Sulphate ( Mg2SO4.7H2O) with a production capacity of 27 000 T/Y.” He, moreover, talked about the importance of salt to humans as well as ways to use iodine and its effect on the thyroid gland in humans. Students also got familiar with the production process of salt from Lake Qarun. The visit also witnessed signing of a cooperation agreement between Fayoum University and EMISAL in the areas of training, employment and scientific research.
