    1st International Forum on Quality Criteria in Higher Education  

   The Quality Assurance and Strategic Planning Center of Fayoum University is currently organizing, in cooperation with the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, a three-day international forum on "Quality Criteria in Higher Education. The opening ceremony took place at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty of Science on Monday 1/12/2014. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Khaled Hamza, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Ahmed Gaber Shedid, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Farid Awad Hedar, Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development, and Dr. Hadeer Bakir, Dean of the Faculty of Science. Also, some deans, vice deans were present. In his opening remarks, President Hamza welcomed the German delegation, expressing his delight with the cooperation between Fayoum University and the University of Duisburg-Essen in the field of adopting quality criteria in study, and academic and technological research. He also stressed the need for continuously reforming educational and research services offered by the university through supporting quality systems at these faculties, Taking the floor, Prof. Ahmed Gaber Shedid confirmed the university's keenness on enhancing its quality systems on a continuous basis, pointing out that quality criteria have become a salient component of any educational entity. He also quoted Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) saying " Allah loves someone who when works, he performs it in perfect manner". He also added that quality criteria should be applied in curricula, scientific research and instruction, and this, according to his point of view, would not happen unless both the Egyptian and German sides worked together and provided all the facilities needed for the faculties seeking to attain quality. These faculties are the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom. He also said that the three-day forum would discuss the research opportunites available for researchers and are funded by the DAAD. "Also, the forum will tackle how to disseminate the culture of quality and institutional evaluation and achieve the desired goals," he added. Speaking during the opening ceremony, Prof. Farid Awad Hedar accentuated the importance of exchanging and sharing ideas among the interested bodies and people as the world is flat. "This will lead to the progress and welfare of peoples and create new scientific approaches," he added. He also said that creating channels of cooperation between Fayoum University and foreign universities will widely promote scientific and technological development for both the university and its partners.
