| The story of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Fayoum University and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) to establish "Fayoum International University" has attracted some national and international media interest. On the national level, some Egyptian media and news websites gave great concern to the story such as: El-Wasat, Al-Ahram, Misrelgdida, Al-Youm 7, Upper Egypt, the Egyptian Education Portal, and 2Alex.

| The online newspaper El-Wasat published the story in its online edition under the heading "Establishing Fayoum International University", noting the MoU which has been signed between Fayoum University and UWIC to establish a new international university in Fayoum.

| The Cairo-based Al Ahram newspaper in its economy section mentioned the event under: "GAFI: Academic Investment Area in Fayoum for the First Time". The paper also pointed to the aim behind the agreement formalized between the two parties, which is "to share expertise and knowledge between both institutions so as to improve the quality of higher education in Egypt and in applied research linked to industry and entrepreneurship in Egypt".

| The story also caught the interest of the online newspaper Misrelgdida which highlighted the event under the heading "Four New Vocational Diplomas at Fayoum International University", pointing to the four new vocational diplomas which will be offered at the new university to be established. The four new vocational diplomas include hospital management, nutrition, and events and hotel management.

| Moreover, Al-Youm 7 had its own coverage as it published the story in its online edition under the heading:" MoU to establish Fayoum International University in Collaboration with UWIC". The paper also published the comments of Prof. Ahmed El-Gohary, President of Fayoum University, on the event, saying:" The project will focus on two to three programs in the first phase, including in the areas of food science and technology, hotel and events management, and nursery and total quality management for hospital care."

| He added:" A number of demonstrators and assistant lecturers will be sent to the UWIC to pursue master and doctoral degrees there."

| "A new center for marketing scientific research will be set up in partnership with the UWIC's National Center for Product Design and Development Research (PDR)", he confirmed.

| Remarks by Professor Antony Chapman, Vice-Chancellor of UWIC, were published, too. According to the paper, Professor Antony Chapman said:" UWIC has a worldwide reputation with students from more than 140 countries, and this event today is a major milestone in the continuing relationship with a key international partner with who we already share major EU contracts having worked in partnership since 1196. We look forward to working further with colleagues at Fayoum University and with the Egyptian government to develop plans for this exciting higher education complex at New Fayoum City." He also voiced his intention to visit Fayoum University next month to initiate the project.

| On the international level, some academic websites were interested in the event as they addressed the Welsh support for Egypt in the field of higher education and training. Under the heading "UWIC and Fayoum University Egypt sign MoU to establish new university in Egypt" the UWIC's website mentioned the event, tracking the historical relationship between both universities which dates back to 1996 with the first Memorandum signed in 1998 to develop academic and scholarly links between the two institutions. It also published the comments of Mr. Osama Saleh, Chairman of GAFI, who referred to the depth of relations between Egypt and Wales, particularly UWIC. The walesinternationalconsortium Website tackled the event under the same heading, hailing the agreement concluded between the two universities.
