Department of Islamic Archaeology
Since archaeology is the science which studies the ancient heritage, the need to have different branches for studying the archaeology of each historical era has became a must. By and large, archaeology, as a science, has a strong connection with other sciences such as history, Anthropology, Geology,
Geography, Topography, Engineering and Painting. Thus, Islamic Archaeology Science focuses on the cultural and material frame of every form of monuments remained from the countries which espoused Islam. So, the Department of Islamic Archaeology, Faculty of Archaeology, is concerned with studying Islam since its emergence till the 20th century A.D. Specifically, Islamic archaeology focuses on two branches:
The first branch handles buildings which differ in function and form, cities and their planning, decorations, colors and inscriptions. The second branch deals with studying all movable items such as coins, antiques, manuscripts….etc.

The most important objective of studying archeology is to help each nation know its heritage and culture, and define its status among other peoples and its role in the march of nations; therefore, archaeology is regarded as the real history of each nation.
