Opening Ceremony of the Regional Championship for People with Special Needs

Prof. Ahmed Gaber Shedid, President of Fayoum University, accompanied by Major General Essam Saad, Fayoum Governor, witnessed the opening ceremony of the regional championship of athletics and tennis table for people with special needs from governorates of North Upper Egypt (Fayoum - Beni Suef - Minya - Assiut - New Valley), The championship is organized by Fayoum University in cooperation with the Special Education Department of the Directorate of Education in Fayoum. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Khaled Atallah, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Abdullah, Undersecretary of Ministry of Education, Deans of faculties, Advisors of the President of University and Mr. Ayman Helba, Acting Secretary General of the University.
Maj. Gen. Essam Saad expressed his great pleasure in his presence in Fayoum University with his sons and daughters of students from Fayoum University and students of intellectual education schools for intellectual disability and light for the blind and hope for the deaf students from various governorates of North Upper Egypt to participate in the championship. He said that the governorate hosted Upper Egypt Athletics for the mentally handicapped and deaf during the academic year 2018/2019. The governorate is also honored this year to host the North Upper Egypt Athletics and Table Tennis Championship for people with intellectual disabilities and integration, and at the end of his speech, he gave the signal to begin the championship.
Prof. Ahmed Gaber Shedid welcomed guests of Fayoum University and all delegations participating in the championship from various governorates of northern Upper Egypt, pointing out that the university administration is ready to organize such events annually and seeks to achieve serious and fruitful cooperation with all concerned parties to serve the students of this privileged category of society, as he stressed Fayoum University attaches great importance to sports and various student activities and adopts unique and distinctive talents in all sports activities.
While Mr. Mohamed Abdullah thanked Fayoum Governor for sponsoring the championship and honoring the opening ceremony with his presence. He also thanked the President of the University for providing a helping hand to the Directorate of Education in Fayoum and participating in the organization and the hospitality, and explained that there are about 80 students with special needs from different schools Northern Upper Egypt participate in this championship.
During the ceremony, a number of students gave a number of artistic performances and national anthems, then athletics, marathon and table tennis competitions began.
