Faculty of Dar Al Uloom, Fayoum University, is to organize the Department of Islamic Philosophy Second International Conference titled: "Dialectic of Conflict and Dialogue between Islam and the West" ( from 26-28 October 2009) under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El Gohary, President of Fayoum University, Professor Mohammad El Khaleely Barakat, Vice-President, Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Khalil Abdelal Khalil, Dean, Faculty of Dar Al Uloom, and Conference Chairperson, Professor Mohammad Abuelmagd, Vice-Dean, Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Conference Vice-Chairman, and Professor Ahmed Arafat Al Qadi, Chairperson, Department of Islamic Philosophy.

Aims of the Conference:
- Propagation for culture of tolerance between East and West.
- Uncovering the value of dialogue and intellectual pluralism in Islam.
- Analyzing and criticizing the notion of "The Clash of Civilizations" and the unfruitful political and sectarian disputes.
- Asserting the peaceful future of the world between nations and the duty of religions to realize such a future.
- Pointing out to the phenomenon of the effect and being affected between East and West and the need of each one to the other.
- The need of the mutual cooperation between religions and civilizations.

1- Religious dialogue between 'Almotakalmeen' (Islamic theology philosophers) and people of other religions and sects.
2- Western colonialism of the Islamic world, its motives and aims.
3- The theory of "The Clash of Civilizations".

5- The concept of the end of history and the western American model.
6- Problematic of understanding Islam in the west.

B- Basic Notions in Dialogue of Civilizations
1- The methodology of Qur'an and 'Sunnah' in the dialogue with other religions.
2- Translation and its role in the Dialogue of Civilizations.
3- Orientalism and Occidentalism.
4- Contextuality in Cultures and dialogue.
5- Effect and being affected between Civilizations and peoples.
6- The role of media and new means of communication in Civilizations' interaction.
7- Islam's effect on the European renaissance.
8- The concept of Fundamentalism between Islam and Christianity.

C- The Future of the Dialogue between Islam and the West
1-The role of Religions in supporting mutual understanding.
2- Islam and the future of World peace.
3- Minorities in Islamic countries and its role in correcting the image of Islam in the West.
4- Religious tolerance and accepting the other.
5- The concept of freedom of speech and its misuse against religions.
6- New Orientalists and their role in reducing the gap between East and West.
7- The future of the dialogue between religions.

Participation Fees:
- Participation fees from inside Egypt:
400 EGP including publishing the paper in the conference book.
250 EGP without publishing the paper

- Participation fees from outside Egypt:
300 USD including publishing the paper. in the conference book.
200 USD without publishing the paper.
Fees are to be sent to account no. 9/450/88741/8, Egypt Central Bank, Faculty of Dar Al Uloom, Fayoum University account, and sending a copy of the deposit slip to the chairperson of the conference, or to be paid in cash to the conference treasurer.

Hosting:
- At the tourist hotel: 150 EP single, 75 double, for one night including breakfast and dinner.
- At the armed forces hotel: 250 EP single, 150 EP double.
- At Helnan Hotel: 350 single, 250 double.

Deadlines:
- Abstracts are to be sent before 31st of Aug. 2009.
- Complete research papers are to be sent before 31st of Oct. 2009.
