10th Scientific Conference of Faculty of Education

Professor Ahmed El-Gohary, President of Fayoum University, inaugurated the 10th Scientific Conference of Faculty of Education entitled "Educational Research in the Arab World – Future Visions" which is held by Faculty of Education from April 20th through April 21st, 2010 at the Faculty Conference Hall.

A host of high-profile figures attended the event. Present at the ceremony were Professor Mohammad El-Khaleely, Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Ragaa Ahmed Eid, Dean of Faculty of Education and Conference Chairperson, and Professor Amal Rabie, Vice-dean of Faculty of Education for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Conference Rapporteur, a number of deans, vice-deans and some teaching staff members.

The opening ceremony commenced with a recitation of some verses of the Holy Quran, followed by playing the national anthem. Then, Prof. Amal Rabie took the floor and expressed her delight at the participation of some researchers from Arab countries such as Bahrain, Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as some researchers from the Egyptian universities: Ain Shams, South Valley, Benha, Beni Suef, and Ismailia. She concluded her speech with voicing her wish that the congress would produce novel ideas which could be applied in the future.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Ragaa Ahmed Eid said: "The conference addresses educational research which is one of the key issues which concern all the Arab countries. Unfortunately, the overall Arab commitment to educational research is very low relative to other areas of society. Compared to the budget devoted to research at only one university in the United States of America, expenditure on educational research in the whole Arab world is diminutive." Then, she reviewed the abstracts, the challenges and obstacles which will be discussed.

According to Prof. Mohammad El-Khaleely: "Faculties of education are necessary tools in attaining progress as development cannot be achieved without a successful teacher and good health." He also wished the conference would result in recommendations on how to remedy the crisis in education.

In his speech, Prof. Ahmed El-Gohary welcomed the attendees, wishing them a happy and fruitful stay at Fayoum. He added: "This conference bears two important messages: firstly, the need to give due attention to the faculties of education as they participate in teacher preparation, which is the basis of any successful educational process; secondly, tackling the state of education in Egypt according to a recently issued report."
