On March 25, 2008, Prof. Dr. Galal M. Said, president of Fayoum University, inaugurated the 2nd Fayoum University Civilization and Heritage entitled (Fayoum Cultural Heritage – Communication and Belonging) at the Grand Convention Hall. Under the auspices of: :

1st Day Proceedings (March 25 ) * The conference started with opening a gallery of some antiquities, pottery, books and paintings reflecting the Islamic and Egyptian monuments; also, it contains political books on the political history of Fayoum Governorate and its political leaders.
* The inaugural session of the conference began with reciting some verses of the Holy Koran by Mahmoud Mohamed Amin – Year 3, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic studies. Dr. Khalil Abdel Al Khalil, vice-dean for Education and Students played the role of the presenter. Then, Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab delivered his word in which he welcomed the audiences and expressed his ultimate pleasure with the timing of the conference which coincided with Fayoum celebration with its national day. He added that the conference was a unique opportunity for fathoming and exchanging about 45 scientific researches. Also, he affirmed that the Late Prof. Dr. Mona Mohamed Badr Edine, vice-dean of Faculty of Archaeology for Community Service and Environment Development would be honored. The late leader, Hamed Basha Al Basel, one of the heroes of the 1919 Revolution and a great Fayoumi figure, will be honored, too. At last, he thanked Fayoum Governor for attending the conference.
* In his word, president of Fayoum University voiced his faithful thanks for the audiences. He also tackled the role which Civilization and Heritage Center, based in the university, plays in the governorate and the university. The center is charged with holding conferences and cultural activities. The center, for example, has issued a set of simple books on the main and important facets of Fayoum. "This conference deals with issues of a paramount importance, like the cultural, religious and social heritage, the mission of the mass media, art, tourism, archaeology and environment in Fayoum." added the president.
* Moreover, Governor of Fayoum delivered a word in which he thanked the audiences, particularly the president of the university for his deep and faithful efforts in organizing this conference which narrates the heritage and civilization of Fayoum.
* Both the president and the governor honored the late Prof. Dr. Mona Mohamed Badr; her son Mr. Amr Mohamed Hasan received the University Shield. Also, the late leader Hamed Basha Al Basel was honored; the granddaughter of Prof. Dr. Khalid Sadek Al Basel received the University Shield.
* At 11:00 a.m. the first session of the conference was held and presided over by Prof. Dr. Adel Tobia, dean of Faculty of Archaeology. The session embraced the following themes:

• Bedouin Girl reached the top – Prof. Dr. Sawsan Ali Ibrahim
• Fayoum rocks unveil the evidence of the prophets' miracles – Prof. Dr. Morad Mohamed Al Dash
• Creation Theory and Formation in the light of the Holy Koran - Prof. Dr. Morad Mohamed Al Dash
• The basics of restoration and maintenance of the stony formations in the Hanging Mosque in Fayoum (1560/966) – Dr. Mohamed Kamal Khalaf
• Sa'adia ben Joseph Al Fayoumi (820 – 942) and Ha'egron dictionary (sic. Mogam Al Gamee) – Dr. Amal Mohamed Rabie
• Hairstyles of statues of individuals in Fayoum during the medieval State Period – Dr. Rasha Mustafa Omran
• Religious occasions and how to employ them for the good of the society - Dr. Aisha Al Tohami
• Developing the folk markets to keep the urban heritage and image of the Arab city – Dr. Abu Al Kasem Rashwan

* At 05:00p.m. the second session was held and headed by Prof. Dr. Abu Al Kasem Rashwan, Professor of Literary Studies. The session dealt with:
• Study of the moulds used in making glass in the past and the present in the field of archaeology – Dr. Nagwa Sayed Abdel Rahim
• The electrochemical corrosion in the archaeological metals and the role of the old fashioned techniques in leading to it by applying this on some selected monuments – Dr. Shahata Abdel Rahim and Dr.Mohamed Motamed Megahed
• How man damaged the environment – Prof. Dr. Morad Mohamed Al Dash
• Towards a unified environmental system - Prof. Dr. Morad Mohamed Al Dash
• Railways in Fayoum (the narrow road) – Mr. Ibrahim Mesiha
• Scientific study of some methods used in cleaning and cleansing the scripts and paper documents –Dr. Amany Mohamed Kamel Ibrahim
• With the book on Sheikh Al Arab Hamed Basha Al Basel -Mr. Mohamed Selim Hawaf Al Basel

* First: Planning Field:
-Setting up an electronic database and updating it regularly.
-Counting all the different tourist and archaeological monuments and landscapes in Fayoum; Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and medical.
-encouraging the researches and studies interested in Fayoum heritage and environment .
-Doing a bibliography of the studies dealt with Fayoum leaders over the last ages and eras; Pharaonic, Christian and Islamic.
* Second: Development and Enhancement Field:
-Forming a committee to make a survey of what has not been registered yet of historic buildings containing things which might be disappeared and asking the Antiquities Authority for registering them if they are among the historic remains.
* Third: Planning the Archaeological Sites and Upgrading the Environment:
-Development and cultural coordination of Fayoum.
-Stressing the re-planning of old mosques area in Fayoum which contains a number of Islamic sights such as: the Hanging Mosque – Qaitbay Mosque – Mausoleum of Ali Al Ruby – Al Sofi Mosque – Wekala al-Magharba .
-Setting a plan to upgrade all the tourist monuments and providing them with the guide signs and required services to do their tourist role .
-Organizing competitions among the villages close to the tourist monuments so as to award the village which keeps the monuments and the ways leading to the tourist places clean and beautiful .
-Encouraging the social participation of the businessmen, governmental organizations and the private sector to provide tourist services and facilities suitable for these places.
-Encouraging the social contribution to raise the number of pre-school institutions (Katatib) to play their positive role in Fayoum.
-Encouraging the conference culture for university students in order to make them get the utmost benefit of conferences in the present and the future.
