Seminar highlights Islam and Political Participation |

The Faculty of Specific Education organized on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 a seminar titled Islam and Political Participation. The keynote speaker was Dr. Hatem Abdul Azim, professor of Islamic Jurisprudence. Dr. Hatem showcased the Islamic systematic thinking adopted in rule, which is based on consultation and justice. He also explained the way Prophet Mohammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) treated the Jews in al-Medina. Moreover, he talked about the Jizya, a per capita tax levied on a section of an Islamic state's non-Muslim citizens. He said: "The Jizya is a tradition which cannot be established in our society in the modern age as our communities composed of both Muslims and Christians who have the same rights and duties. |
