3rd D-Library Workshop Kicked off |

| The Convention Hall of Faculty of Engineering hosted over two days, 6th and 7th April 2009, the 3rd Workshop on D-Library. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Khaleely Barakat, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research. Some dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony including, Prof. Dr. Hany Ahmed Al Ghazaly, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Wael Taha Al Dahshoory, director of Libraries Automation Project, Mr. Mahmoud Dawoud, director of Training at Library Information Systems Co., Mr. Tamer Tawfik, Coordinator of EULC Union Catalog, the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU), as well as a number of faculty staff members. "The primary goal of this workshop is to give an introduction about the digital library and how to register through the website of the University ", Dr. Wael Al Dahshoory pointed out . He also showed the statistics reflecting the number of the faculty members of the university who use the digital library of Fayoum University and the use of the digital library in comparison with the other universities. Moreover, he noted that more than 40% of the university faculty staff had been registered as users of the digital library. For his part, Prof. Dr. Hany Al Ghazaly talked about the importance of digital library. "The digital library has ended a plethora of problems which face researchers to access information and data on scientific studies", he added. He also extolled the digital library project and its success at the level of Egyptian universities. After that, Prof. Dr. El Khaleely , said that the digital library project has made the library move into the homes of researchers compared the difficulties faced by the researchers prior to putting the project into effect. The researcher has become able to follow up on the latest periodicals, research and scientific publications in his place without shouldering the burden of travel and waiting, he added. He also noted that there are currently many of the projects which fund scientific research such as FP7. Then, the workshop started its events, which consisted of two sessions on the first day. In the first session, Mr. Tamer Tawfik gave a presentation of the institutions involved in the project, Egyptian Universities’ Libraries Consortia (EULC) Projects, components of digital library project and Egyptian University Libraries Automation project. In the second session, Mr. Mahmoud Dawoud illustrated the electronic sources of information, which consist of electronic and international databases. He then explained how to use many of the databases within the Digital Library Project. On the second day, Mr. Samy Abdel Kader trained the participants on the use of another set of international databases. At last, both Mr. Samy Abdel Kader and Mr. Tamer Tawfik trained the participants practically and answered their questions on the use of digital library. |
