28July2009 JSPS RONPAKU (Dissertation PhD) Program for FY 2010  
     
     

PhD Fellowships are available to the promising researchers who wish to obtain their PhD degrees from Japanese universities under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), RONPAKU (Dissertation PhD) Program for the year 2009. For the first time, researchers in African countries are eligible for the program.

Application Deadline
August 10, 2009
RONAPKU applicants are to forward application forms to their prospective Japanese advisor. Then, Japanese advisors are to submit the application form via their university to JSPS together with the package of documents received from the RONPAKU applicant.

Terms of Awards
JSPS financial support to RONPAKU fellows includes the following:
1-Roundtrip economy class air ticket from their home country to Japan (once per year)
2-Over a period of five years, RONPAKU Fellows may visit their Japanese host university once a year for a maximum period of 90 days for the purpose of studying under the supervision of their Japanese advisor. They will be paid 600000 yen "the highest pay a member can receive per year for staying in Japan for the longest time i.e. 90 days".
3-Medical and accident insurance during fellow’s stay in Japan (provided by JSPS during authorized periods of stay)

Eligibility of RONPAKU Fellow
The candidate must be a researcher
1-Who obtained a M.A. degree a year ago at most (on April 1st, 2009).
2- Who is 35 years of age or younger.
3-Who is nominated by his/her Department Council.
4-Who has obtained his/her nominating organization's consent.
5-Who has prepared a dissertation research plan under the RONPAKU Program.
6- Who has been employed full time at a university or research institution in his/her home country for two years at least.
7-Who has contacted a prospective Japanese advisor.
8-Who has obtained his/her prospective Japanese advisor's consent on the dissertation research plan.
9-Who has got a Letter of Recommendation (Form 4-1) from Mr. Prof. Head of Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector.
10- Who has got a score of 500 in TOEFL or its equivalent.
