On the occasion of the first centennial of the birth of Naguib Mahfouz, Egypt pays special homage to her Noble Laureate who was born on December 11th, 1911. December 11th, 2010 is Mahfouz's 100th birthday – and the signal of one-year celebrations launched by the Supreme Council of Culture. The event which bears the title of "Naguib Mahfouz's Year" will feature a wide range of cultural activities.
