This summer program provides opportunities for young undergraduate student leaders from Middle Eastern and North African universities to participate in a five-week intensive leadership training program in the United States. 2009 Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders  Deadline is February 8, 2009 The program is an intensive 5 weeks academic course starting July 2009. The purpose of the program is to provide groups of undergraduate student leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States’ society, culture, values and institutions while simultaneously enhancing their leadership and collective problem solving skills. In this context, the institute will incorporate a focus on contemporary American life, as it is shaped by historical and/or current political, social, and economic issues and debates. The institute will include an academic residency component of approximately four weeks and a domestic travel component of approximately one week that will conclude with a 2 to 3 day program in Washington, DC. The 2009 Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) for Scholars program. This is a rigorous six-week post-graduate academic program held at university campuses throughout the United States. It is designed to provide 18 participants from around the world with a deeper understanding of American society, culture, history, politics, economy, institutions, and religion, and to enhance teachings on these subjects at universities worldwide.

2009 Study of the United States Institutes for Secondary School Educators  Deadline is January 18, 2009. The 2009 Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) for Secondary School Educators (English teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, Ministry of Education officials, etc.). This is a rigorous six-week summer program which is held at university campuses throughout the United States. It is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program is designed to provide two multinational groups of up to 30 participants each with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, education, and cultpure. The program will be organized around the central themes of U.S. history and will have a strong contemporary component. Through a combination of traditional, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary approaches, the program will study the evolution of U.S. educational institutions and values, while highlighting contemporary American political, social, and economic debates.
