  The first kite festival for kites was held on the beach of Lake Qarun during 23-24 February 2007. Teams from the following universities took part in the event: Fayoum University – Al-Azhar University – Zagazig University – Alexandria University – Mansoura University – Helwan University – Minia University – Sohag University – Kafr El Sheikh University – The American University in Cairo (AUC) – South Valley University – Cairo University - Assiut University – Suez Canal University – Beni Suef University.
The festival began with a note given by President of Fayoum University Galal Said, followed by remarks by Secretary-General of the Egyptian University Sports Federation Essam El Helali.
Following, there was the parade, then some performances. Moreover, a gallery was held on the sidelines of the festival and got the admiration of the participants. After that, the flying contest began; it witnessed intense competitions among the participants. The contest resulted in six teams won trophie: Fayoum University – Helwan University – Mansoura University – Kafr El Sheikh University – Alexandria University - Beni Suef University. As for the gallery, results came as follows:
Seven universities won the First Place: Fayoum University – Helwan University – Beni Suef University – Alexandria University – Minia University – Assiut University – South Valley University.
Five universities finished second: Tanta University – Mansoura University – Suez Canal University – Kafr El Sheikh University – Zagazig University.
Five universities finished third: Tanta University – Mansoura University – Suez Canal University – Kafr El Sheikh University – Zagazig University.
