At the Armed Forces Club on the beach of Karoon Lake, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yusuf al-Kady, vice-president for Education and Students, inaugurated the 2nd Kite Festival. The two-day festival was held by the university in cooperation with the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hani Helal, minister of Higher Education and State for Scientific Research and Prof. Dr. Galal M. Said, president of Fayoum University.
Two thousand students representing universities of (Fayoum- Cairo – South Valley – Tanta – Minia – Beni Suef – Helwan – Suez Canal – Alazhar- Ahram Canadian University ACU) participated in the festival.
The festival included Plane Models Gallery; they were paper, wooden and metal planes of different shapes and sizes. Also, there was a competition to fly sail planes by hand control, and another competition to fly beach kites within the boundaries of the place fixed by the organizing committee. Moreover, each of the delegations had to submit a research about the history of kites, air culture and the story of aviation enclosed by images and pictures as well as the documentation from the resources; the research had to be 6 sheets at least and 15 at most.
In the frame of the festival, Dr. Farouk Ismail Ahmed, president of the Ahram Canadian University handed the University Shield over to Prof. Dr. Ahmed al-Kady on behalf of Fayoum University.
The competitions resulted in the following:
*Fayoum University: first
*South Valley University: runner-up
*Minia University: third
