President of Fayoum University Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary inaugurated on Thursday 26/2/2009 the Third Festival of Kites. The university organized the festival in collaboration with the Egyptian University Sports Federation (EUSF) and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Hani Helal, Minister of Higher Education and State for Scientific Research.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries including Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Qadi, Vice-President for Education and Students, Prof. Dr. Samir Seif Al Yazzal, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Mr. George Zaki, Assistant Chief of Security and Mr. Mohamed Sobhy, EUSF Vice President.

Twenty Arab and Egyptian universities participated in the event, for example: Fayoum University - Cairo University – South Valley University –Tanta University – Beni Suef University – Helwan University – Suez Canal University – Al Azhar University – Kafr El Sheikh University – Sohag University –Mansoura University - Menoufiya University – Jordan University of Science and Technology – University of Baghdad, Iraq.

The festival included an artistic show presented by the University Folk Music Company, an exhibition of plane models made of paper, wood and metal and of different shapes and sizes. Also, there was a competition to fly sail planes by hand control, and another to fly beach kites. Moreover, each of the delegations had to submit a documented research, illustrated with images and pictures, about the history of kites, air culture and the story of aviation. The research had to be 6 sheets at least and 15 at most.

In the framework of the festival, the chairman of the delegation of the University of Baghdad presented his University Shield to Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary in appreciation of his hospitality and his outstanding efforts in organizing such an impressive festival.

At the end of the festival, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al Qadi rewarded the winners as follows;
First level: Fayoum University – Helwan University - Beni Suef University – South Valley University
Second Level: Mansoura University – Suez Canal University – Kafr El Sheikh University – Sohag University
Third Level: Alexandria University – Cairo University – Al Azhar University – Menoufiya University
