The Projects Management Unit (PMU) held a seminar titled " TEMPUS IV: Mechanisms and Opportunities". The seminar was organized under the aegis of Professor Ahmed El Gohary, President of Fayoum University. It took place on Sunday 25/1/2009 in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels.

Both Professor Mustafa Radwan, director of PMU and Dr. Mohammad Mahdy, Assistant Coordinator of National TEMPUS Office lectured at the seminar.

Professor Radwan opened the seminar with tackling the six priority projects and the second phase of development projects. He also shed light on the Higher Education Enhancement Project Fund (HEEPF) and the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Project (QAAP).

Following, Dr. Mahdy talked about TEMPUS, mentioning the four calls of it:

-TEMPUS I (1990 – 1994) for Eastern Europe

-TEMPUS II (1994 – 1998) for the Western Balkans

- TEMPUS II (1998 – 2006) for the Mediterranean Sea Basin Countries

-TEMPUS IV (2007 – 2013)

He added that Tempus, Trans European Mobility Programme for University Studies, funds two types of actions: Joint Projects and Structural Measures. Tempus is a tailor-made programme to help modernize higher education and create an area of co-operation in countries on the premise that higher education sector can lead the economic development and cultural renaissance in the countries partnering with the EU countries, he stated.

At the end of the seminar, there was a discussion on how to benefit from TEMPUS calls.
