In the framework of Tempus (The Trans-European mobility scheme for university studies) funded by the European Commission a workshop was organized focusing on the activities and achievements of the project titled:
Training of Trainers in Multi-Disciplinary Integrated Water Resources
Management
The workshop was held at Convention Hall of Faculty of Engineering on Tuesday 17/2/2009.
Prof. Dr. Mohammed El Khaleely Barakat, Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and research and Prof. Dr. Hany Al Ghazaly, Dean of Engineering inaugurated the workshop. A number of the participants in the workshop including representatives of the Central Directorates of Water Resources and Irrigation in Fayoum, Beni Suef and Minia and some of the teaching faculty staff witnessed the workshop.
The workshop commenced with a general background about the project and the participants delivered by Prof. Dr. Sameh Abdel-Gawad, Project Regional Director and Professor of Hydraulics, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
After that, Dr. Hani Sweilam, Project Coordinator from Aachen University, Germany, introduced a summary of the key role of the German University as a key researcher in the project, as well as the first part of the training (Module 1) designed for raising the efficiency of the trainers in the field of distance education, multimedia teaching and training systems and geographic information systems.
Following, Dr. Alaa Abdeen, Representative of the National Center for Water Research, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, handled the importance of the project to the ministry and the vision of the Center for the benefit of the project at the next stage.
After a short break, Prof. Blabanov, Representative of the Institute of Advanced Studies, Austria, presented a summary of Austria's participation in the project and some of the proposals for other projects in the future under FP7 ongoing projects .
At the end of the workshop Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary, President of Fayoum University, received the project members and expressed his interest in the project hoping for continued cooperation with all the actors involved.
For his part, Dr. Nabil Awadullah, Project Coordinator has said that the project is held in cooperation with five different institutions in the field of irrigation and water resources, including:
- Fayoum University (Faculty of Engineering).
- Cairo University (Faculty of Engineering).
- The National Center for Water Research.
- Aachen University, Germany.
- Institute of Advanced Studies, Austria.
