The research dimensions of this department depend on the issue of change, which relates to the following macro human units (social welfare institutions- local communities - society as a whole whether on the local or national level). There are two main branches of research in this department:
1. The first branch relates to the development of society in one of the fundamental fields such as human resources development, which is considered a technique for the development of the local, rural, nomadic, urban or industrial community.
2. The second branch relates to social planning as a method of social work, and includes theoretical and empirical subjects related to the procedural steps of social planning, such as identifying planning purposes and evaluating the programs and planning projects.
