    1st Training Workshop in Service Learning Project

    The first Service Learning training workshop was held in Training Hall of the Faculty of Education on 21-22 November 2011. The workshop started with some remarks delivered by Professor Mohammad Abdel Tawab, vice-dean, Education and Students’ Affairs, and Chief Executive Officer of Service Learning Project. In the format of a PowerPoint presentation, he shed light on the concept and importance of service learning. Following, Dr. Nabila Ali Marzouk, lecturer, Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, delivered a note titled “Basic Concepts of Service Learning”. She also illustrated the concept of service learning through some video clips. The workshop also included a note given by Dr. Amal Gomaa, lecturer, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She addressed the philosophy and principles of service learning. Moreover, Dr. Emad Abdel Salam, assistant lecturer, Faculty of Social Work, spoke about the objectives of service learning, while as Dr. Ahmed Sayed, lecturer, Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Education, spoke about the importance of service learning for the individual, community and institutions. At the end of the day, Professor Mohammad Abdel Tawab commented on the whole training day, stressing on the importance of embedding service learning into the courses being taught at schools and colleges.
