Fayoum University Hosts Al-Azhar University’s Educational Symposium: (Population Education, Family Planning, and the Opinions of Contemporary Imams of Jurisprudence)

Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansary, Governor of Fayoum, Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and Prof. Salama Dawoud, President of Al-Azhar University, witnessed the opening session of the educational symposium hosted by Fayoum University under the title (Population Education, Family Planning, and the Opinions of Contemporary Imams of Jurisprudence), which was held by the Islamic International Center for Population Studies and Research at Al-Azhar University.
In the presence of Prof. Mohamed Farouk Al-Khabeery, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Emad, Deputy Governor of Fayoum, Prof. Gamal Abu Al-Sorour, Director of the International Islamic Center for Population Studies and Research at Al-Azhar University, members of the center, a number of deans and vice eans of colleges, and members of the House of Representatives and the parliament, and a number of deputy ministries in Fayoum Governorate, representatives of Al-Azhar region in Fayoum, endowments, the church, the National Council for Women, and executive members, Monday, September 18, 2023, in the university’s grand celebration hall.
Prof. Ahmed Al-Ansary confirmed that the population issue is one of the most important issues that the political leadership pays great attention to and is constantly referred to and addressed in all forums, as it is one of the most important challenges facing the required growth and progress, and maintaining development capabilities in all sectors of the state.
He directed that attention to the population issue is not the responsibility of state agencies only, but it is the responsibility of every member of society, especially after population growth rates have become much greater than economic growth rates. Therefore, work must be done to create the necessary community awareness and correct and sound understanding of this issue, and to correct concepts. There must be sincere work and serious cooperation between all individuals and the concerned authorities to ensure that the needs of future generations are met.
Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata indicated that Fayoum University is working to implement policies and mechanisms related to the necessary awareness of the population issue, and the university is always ready to cooperate with all concerned parties to raise awareness of this issue.
He praised the efforts made by Al-Azhar University and the International Islamic Center for Population Studies and Research related to population education.
Prof. Salama Dawoud also praised the fruitful cooperation with Fayoum Governorate and Fayoum University to organize this symposium, stressing that attention to the issues of women, the Egyptian family and young people is one of the most important humanitarian, national and patriotic issues that Islamic law urges and Al-Azhar University is concerned with, and therefore many educational seminars are held regarding it, whether inside or outside Egypt.
He continued that the International Islamic Center for Population Studies and Research has many publications in all fields, especially related to the population issue with regard to the axes of population education and family planning, as well as interest in addressing the opinions of contemporary imams of jurisprudence on it.
Prof. Gamal Abu Srour explained that the symposium is directed to policy makers, teachers, service providers, imams of endowments, and preachers of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and aims to discuss two of the most important books issued by the center, which are the book on population education, the book on family planning, and the opinions of contemporary imams of jurisprudence. He explained that the center is conducting many educational seminars in order to achieve Egypt’s vision for sustainable development 2030, especially after population education became one of the subjects and curricula during the various educational stages.
He stressed that Al-Azhar University is cooperating with many entities, with the aim of issuing books and documents related to the population issue, in addition to distributing these publications to the relevant authorities and ministries to benefit from the studies and research contained in these publications.
At the conclusion of the opening session, Prof. Salama Dawoud presented the shield of the International Islamic Center for Islamic Studies and Research to Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, and Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, in appreciation and gratitude for their efforts.
