Prof. Arafa Sabry Hassan, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, announced that Fayoum University has achieved distinguished rankings in the Nature Index for scientific research. The university ranked 16th locally among 54 Egyptian research institutions, including universities, hospitals, and health institutes, and 12th among Egyptian public and private universities, under the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University.
At the global and regional levels, the university ranked 2595th among 5228 international academic institutions and 76th among 261 African academic institutions.
The university also achieved advanced rankings in four research fields among academic institutions, as follows:
- Biological Sciences: globally (1915th out of 3017 universities), Africa (51st out of 141 universities), and locally (9th among Egyptian universities).
- Chemistry: Globally (1,848th out of 2,906 universities), Africa (27th out of 57 universities), and locally (10th among Egyptian universities).
- Physical Sciences: Globally (1,915th out of 3,174 universities), Africa (43rd out of 73 universities), and locally (10th among Egyptian universities).
- Medical Sciences: Globally (1,768th out of 2,543 universities), Africa (128th out of 162 universities), and locally (18th among Egyptian universities).
It is worth noting that the Nature Index is one of the most prominent indicators of institutional research performance. Its evaluation is based on calculating the number of international research publications by an institution in 145 high-quality journals across five main fields: (biological sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, health sciences, and physical sciences). This year's evaluation also included research published during the period from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. It is worth noting that the Nature Index does not reflect the total publication volume of research by the institution as a whole, but rather is limited to journals with a distinguished reputation in the aforementioned scientific fields.
