University President Attends a Workshop on the Ethics of Scientific Research and the Use of Animals in Education and Scientific Research

Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and Prof. Arafa Sabry Hassan, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies, Cultural Relations and Research, witnessed a workshop on the ethics of scientific research and the use of animals in scientific experiments and research.
In the presence of Prof. Zaher Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Ethics of Scientific Research and Emeritus Professor at Faculty of Agriculture, and distinguished members of the Committee, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in the Grand Celebration Hall.
Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata confirmed the importance of the work of the Higher Committee for the Ethics of Scientific Research, and the necessity of adhering to its opinion in the research to be registered for various academic degrees within the university; Ethical charters are one of the main pillars of scientific research, and they should not be neglected.
He said that the university is studying the establishment of a laboratory for animal experiments at the university level, to be available to researchers from various relevant faculties, provided that the laboratory conforms to the standard specifications in this regard.
On his part, Prof. Arafa Sabry praised the work of the committee, as the committee includes members with a high degree of scientific honesty and scientific excellence from all faculties of the university, and he also indicated that the main objective of the committee is to work on advancing scientific research, and placing it in a sound ethical framework that ensures its benefit to the community.
He suggested that a new number of professors be included to be members of the committee in order to be able to finish its work faster.
Additionally, Prof. Zaher Ahmed explained that the Scientific Research Ethics Committee was registered at the Ministry of Health, and the Scientific Research Ethics Guide was approved in 2019, noting that the committee’s work is focused on monitoring scientific research submitted, and emphasizing respect for the rights of individuals and institutions, and the committee’s decisions are mandatory for researchers. He also presented the objectives of the committee and its work procedures.
