The Department of Egyptology is concerned with exploring what is sometimes called the birthplace of civilization. It also focuses on the Egyptian relations with the Near East since the French scientist Champollion managed to unveil the secrets of the hieroglyphic writing and deciphered the ancient Egyptian language.

Historically, Western Egyptologists had long studied Egyptology, followed by the Egyptians who tried to develop this science, which is interested in throwing light on the history and features of the ancient civilization of Egypt which impressed the ancient and the modern world alike.

Egyptology is primarily concerned with approaching the ancient civilization of Egypt, through studying its history, literatures, languages, and material culture.

The Department of Egyptology, Faculty of Archaeology, is committed to high-quality teaching, to continuing education, and to research and publication in Egyptology. Furthermore, it seeks to build generations able to study and analyze in order to uncover and shed light on the rest of the Egyptian glorious civilization, and also learn how to be the custodians of this heritage.
