The Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Education Development Center (EDC). The initiative works to improve the quality of teacher education in Egyptian universities so that teachers acquire the skills necessary to support student learning and advance Education Reform 2.0 in Egypt. This is achieved through providing pre-service and in-service teacher preparation degree programs. The Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) began in April 2022 and is expected to continue until April 2027. The project will be implemented across several Egyptian governorates with an estimated budget of $5 million. The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacities of the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Supreme Council of Universities to align teacher education programs with national reform efforts and apply relevant international best practices.
