
The Universities, without any doubt, are the principal centers for
education and learning as well as source of knowledge, opinion and community
development. Their academic staff members have wide experiences and scientific
background in various specializations. They currently have feeling with
responsibility towards the community requirement. They effectively loaded by
academic and research activities as well as student accommodation and compiling
them matched to the job market demands. It is worth to mention that, the main
objective of establishing the regional universities in Egypt is to contribute
effectively and directly in solving the developmental constraints and support
the already existing efforts in such field. In this concern, thereby our
Agriculture Faculty belts several strong links with the local authorities of
Fayoum Governorate, public and private sectors, as well as different bodies of
society leaders. The collage, particularly agronomy department, had effectively
participations through preparing and carrying out some agriculture economic
development plans via these strong links. Agronomy department staff members had
constructed several research and developmental project.
On the history of agriculture faculty :
Faculty of Agriculture, as one of the Fayoum University Collage, initially
intended to produce well educational graduates have various knowledge's together
with intellectual and transferable skills enabled them to implement any
activities. The faculty academic staff members have abilities for creativity,
innovation and continually development referenced to the faculty mission. They
also interesting with conducting applicable researches that directly contribute
to cultural and agricultural production. In this concern, agronomy department
was and still responsible for improving different field crops.
From interesting point of view, in 2010, our Faculty adopted the idea of
rearrangement of its educational programs structure according the standards of
quality assurance and accreditation. The main objective of this process was to
enhance the level of its graduates to adequate the community requirements and
national and international job market demands. Therefore, its internal decree
with credit hours for undergraduate students was approved by Minister of High
Education Ministry, decision number 678 in April, 2, 2011. The decree including
six educational programs, that authorized by agricultural studies sector
committee and the national quality assurance and Accreditation Agency. The
decree stated that specialisms begin in the third level and more than one
scientific development should participate in any program. Among these programs,
plant production program was the part of both Agronomy and Horticulture
departments.
On the history of Agronomy department :
Agronomy department including elite of academic staff members distinguishing by
wide experience in teaching, learning and research work. They and an adequate
number of teaching assistance are currently implementing allover action duties.
They performed a number of courses in the areas of field crop production,
physiology, ecology, weed control, breeding, statistics …etc for under- and post
–graduate students. The department provides students by various facilities that
help them to obtain update knowledge and training skills which enable them to
increase the cultural production of high quality products and enhance their
social life level. Graduate programs for Ph.D. and M.Sc. began in 81-1982
academic year. Deepen on the Faculty Council decision, the University offering
M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in agronomy.

Department fullness and activities :
In Agronomy Department there are an equipped laboratory for under – and post –
graduate students, an adequate number of teaching and discussion halls and
relatively appropriate furnished rooms for members accommodation. There are many
equipment enough for The need of teaching and learning, own library, computers
and data show. The academic staff members currently participate in different
local and foreign studies and research projects concerned with improving
materials and methods of crop production. They also effectively participated in
the main crops National Campaigns, integrated post control, training programs
for extension members and other individual activities in and out of college.
Scientific and research aspects and specialisms :
Agronomy Department is actually responsible for teaching of 21 (obligatory &
optional ) courses for all levels of under graduate students and 28 courses for
postgraduate students admitted for research studies in Agronomy and other
departments . In our department, the later students were usually admitted on
research points that already settled in own strategic research plan which.
Including three main areas that are crop production and crop breeding as well as
statistics and experimental designs. Agronomy department offered 14 PhD. and 11
M.Sc. thesis for its teaching assistance and 8 of both thesis for others.
Agronomy staff members published over than 240 research papers in national and
international periodicals.
