Revival of Fayoum Heritage and Civilization Seminar

  In collaboration with the Department of Protected Areas in Fayoum, the Center for Fayoum Heritage and Civilization held a seminar on "Revival of Fayoum Heritage and Civilization". The event took place on Monday morning at the Central Library.   The event was attended by a host of high-profile figures, and included speeches by Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development Farid Awad Hedar, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology Atef Mansour, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Development Nageh Omar.   Explaining the main objective of the seminar, Vice President Hedar, noted that the seminar aims to find solutions to revive the heritage and civilization of Fayoum which abounds in a plethora of tourist, cultural and religious sights. He also stressed the role of languages and tourism in exchanging of knowledge, customs, and heritage.   Taking the podium, Dean Atef Mansour highlighted the great role of Fayoum in the course of the Egyptian history, pointing out that it occupies a high position in the Egyptian tourism.   "Tourism in Fayoum has suffered from a decline over the past years, but there are plans to help Fayoum restore its supreme position among the other Egyptian tourist destinations," added Dean Mansour.   During the seminar, Dr. Nageh Omar gave a presentation about Fayoum since the earliest times. Also, a documentary about famous sights, monuments, and protected areas like Wadi Al-Hitan and Wadi Ar-Rayyan was screened.   The event concluded with a performance by the Fayoum Arab Bedouin Band; also Fawzy Salman Al-Romhi, a poet, read some of his Bedouin poems.
