"Writing Media News" Workshop at Fayoum University

Under the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, attended a workshop entitled "Writing Media News." The workshop was presented by journalist Mohamed Sayed Mandour, Managing Editor of Sada El-Balad website and former advisor to the Minister of Culture, and took place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Central Library.

Also in attendance were Prof. Salah Hashem, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work; Prof. Lamia Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry; Ms. Hala Abdel Rahman El-Swaify, Director General of the General Administration for Public Relations and Media; Mr. Abdel Nasser Bakry, Director General of the General Administration for Community Service and Environmental Development; and other administrators.

Prof. Assem El-Essawy emphasized the importance of media in shaping public awareness and conveying the image of academic institutions to the public. He explained that the workshop reflects Fayoum University's commitment to developing the skills of its media professionals, thereby contributing to improving the quality of media output from the university's various departments.

During the workshop, journalist Mohamed Mandour thanked Fayoum University for its excellent organization and warm welcome. He explained that media is fundamentally about news, and crafting a news story is not merely a casual account of an event, but a meticulous process aimed at conveying the event from reality to the reader's consciousness in the fastest and most truthful way possible. This enhances the institution's public image and builds mutual trust between the institution and its audience.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to academic and visual identity when crafting news stories and avoiding exaggeration. He also stressed the need to review sources and coordinate with the Public Relations and Media Department to ensure the media vision aligns with the institution's objectives.

Furthermore, he discussed the rules of journalistic writing, its requirements, and how to utilize numbers, dates, and names. He also highlighted the skills necessary to write a compelling news story that engages the reader without boring them. Such a story should be concise, engaging, and accurate, while avoiding ambiguity or exaggeration.
