Under
the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University,
Prof. Sherif Mohamed Sabry El-Attar, Vice President for Education and Student
Affairs, attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Cairo International
University Theatre Festival, held this year under the theme "Umm Kulthum
Cycle." Fayoum University participated through its choir, led and trained
by Mr. Wael Hamdy, on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, at the National
Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
The
opening ceremony was also attended by Prof. Hany Abdel-Badea, Dean of the
Faculty of Specific Education; Prof. Wael Tobar, General Coordinator of Student
Activities at Fayoum University; Ms. Salwa Fouad, Director General of the
Student Welfare Administration; Miss. Eman Naseeb, choir supervisor; and a
number of administrators and students from Fayoum University. A distinguished
group of theatre professionals and academics from Egypt and several Arab and
international countries were also present, along with a host of prominent
cultural and artistic figures.
Prof.
Sherif El-Attar stated that the Cairo International University Theatre Festival
is held annually under the generous patronage of His Excellency President Abdel
Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, with the participation of 11
theatrical performances from Egyptian, Arab, and international universities.
He also
expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the university choir for their
outstanding participation and distinguished performance at the opening
ceremony, emphasizing that this refined performance reflects the creative
student talent at Fayoum University and the continuous support from the
university leadership for various student activities.
In this
context, Prof. Wael Tobar affirmed that the university choir's participation in
the festival's opening comes within the framework of the university's
commitment to providing opportunities for its talented students to participate
in major artistic and cultural events. He pointed out Fayoum University's
keenness to support student creativity in various fields of art, considering it
a cornerstone in building the well-rounded character of students. Maestro Wael
Hamd added that the Fayoum University choir presented a distinguished set of
artistic segments that included a medley of songs by the star of the East, Umm
Kulthum, starting with the song “Egypt Speaks for Itself,” followed by a number
of her masterpieces such as “Tawf wa Shouf,” “Al-Rida wal Nour,” and “Hayart
Qalbi Maak,” with great interaction and widespread praise from the audience.
