Fayoum University: "Your First Step Towards Sawiris Scholarship"

Under the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, received Ms. Nada Khaled, Grants Programs Officer at the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, and Ms. Judy Youssef, Grants Programs Specialist at the Foundation. Also present were Prof. Nasser Abdel-Sattar, Dean of the Institute of Research and Strategic Studies for Nile Basin Countries, Prof. Ahmed Ghaith, Director of the University's International Relations Office, and Prof. Ragaa Eid, Former Dean of the Faculty of Education. The meeting took place on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the conference hall of the Institute of Research and Strategic Studies for Nile Basin Countries, as part of a seminar organized by the International Relations Office entitled: "Your First Step Towards a Sawiris Grant."

Prof. Ahmed Ghaith emphasized that Fayoum University is committed to organizing such seminars to inform students about the opportunities available to them for postgraduate studies. The Sawiris Scholarship offers outstanding graduates from Egyptian universities the chance to pursue bachelor or master's degrees in engineering and business administration at several American universities, including the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Stanford, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

During the information session, representatives from the Sawiris Foundation outlined the scholarship application requirements. These include Egyptian citizenship, a very good grade in a bachelor's degree, passing the IELTS or TOEFL iBT English language test and a cognitive abilities test, providing proof of two to three years of work experience, participation in student and volunteer activities within the university and civil society organizations, and an age limit of 35 years for postgraduate studies and 19 years for undergraduate studies.

Regarding the application process, it is done by filling out the basic data form through the Orascom website and uploading the required data and documents such as a letter of recommendation and a certificate of exemption from military service. The application period continues from November to July of each year. The scholarship is fully funded, providing medical insurance, a monthly allowance, and flight tickets.
