Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Workshop: Part of the 6th Annual Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at Fayoum University organized the 2nd Advanced Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy Workshop, as part of the 6th Annual Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Medicine, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of the University, and the supervision of Prof. Assem Fouad El-Essawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Sherif Al-Attar, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.

Prof. Naglaa Elsherbiny, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized the faculty's commitment to supporting scientific and practical workshops to stay abreast of the latest advancements in GI endoscopy. She praised the fruitful cooperation between the Faculty and the Ministry of Health, urging graduates to maintain continuous communication with the faculty to benefit from the participating medical expertise.

Prof. Hamdy Ibrahim, Former Dean of the Faculty, noted that the workshop was attended by a distinguished group of experts from the Ministry of Health and Egyptian universities. Meanwhile, Prof. Essam Ali Hassan, Professor of Gastroenterology, explained that the workshop involved performing advanced endoscopic procedures—including biliary tract endoscopy, stone extraction, and treating complex Achalasia cases—which were broadcast live via video conference.

A significant milestone: For the first time in Fayoum Governorate and the North Upper Egypt sector, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was utilized for the early diagnosis of colon tumors and precancerous polyps, reflecting the unit's major evolution in diagnostics and treatment.

Prof. Tarek Ibrahim, Chairman of the Internal Medicine Department, added that the workshop aims to discuss the latest techniques and transfer practical expertise to students. The workshop was held under the supervision of the Vice Deans: Prof. Amr Zahra, Prof. Mohamed Mashahit, and Prof. Mohamed Salah, alongside Prof. Mohamed Safaa El-Din, Executive Director of University Hospitals.

External participants included Prof. Mohamed Naguib Waify, Prof. Ahmed Khairy (Director of the Endoscopy Unit at Cairo University), and Prof. Mahmoud Soufy (Al-Azhar University)
