Under the Slogan "Don't Gamble with Your Health," Faculty of Medicine at Fayoum University Organizes an Awareness Seminar

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and Prof. Dr. Asem Fouad El-Essawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Naglaa El-Sherbiny, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mashahit, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Medicine organized a seminar titled "Don't Gamble with Your Health" on Sunday, May 10, 2026

Prof. Dr. Naglaa El-Sherbiny emphasized the vital role of medical education and health awareness within the community. She highlighted the responsibility of students and graduates in this regard, stressing the necessity of consulting specialists, regular follow-ups, and strict adherence to prescribed dosages to correct health misconceptions

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mashahit explained that the seminar aimed to guide students as the faculty’s primary ambassadors in conveying accurate medical information. He urged continuous review of modern medical guidelines and reviewed several misconceptions specifically regarding diabetes treatment.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Kamal, Professor of Ophthalmology and former Dean, stressed the importance of relying on accredited scientific references and warned against misleading medical information. He detailed the dangers of treating eye diseases through non-medical methods and the severe complications diabetes can have on vision and overall eye health.

Prof. Dr. Essam Ali Hassan, Professor of Gastroenterology, discussed the role of therapeutic nutrition in treating digestive diseases, addressing several common myths related to diet and treatment.

Prof. Dr. Hadeer Mahmoud Abdel-Ghaffar, Professor of Pediatrics, underscored the critical importance of vaccinations for children and the dangers of neglect, noting their fundamental role in disease prevention.

Prof. Dr. Fadwa Abdel-Rahim, Professor of Pathology, added that regular laboratory tests are essential for monitoring health status and the early detection of diseases.

Prof. Dr. Maher El-Amir, Professor of Internal Medicine, continued the discussion on the necessity of adhering to prescribed treatment plans for blood pressure, alongside following a healthy, appropriate diet

Dr. Karim Salem, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Nephrology, warned that failing to adhere to dialysis schedules prescribed by a nephrologist poses a significant risk to patients. He also cautioned against stopping immunosuppressive drugs for kidney transplant patients without consulting a specialist

Prof. Dr. Osama Mumtaz, Head of the Intensive Care Department, presented several cases admitted to the ICU due to negligence in following medical instructions and failure to adhere to physician-prescribed treatment plans
