The Science,
Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF)
announces
the opening of
applications for the "Faculty for Factory Program."
This strategic
initiative aims to enhance the integration of academic expertise with the
industrial sector, supporting the government's drive to boost the
competitiveness of Egyptian industry and contributing to the national economy.
The program is an
innovative, challenge-based model. It identifies real industrial problems
within Egyptian factories and addresses them through specialized academic
expertise. The focus is on developing practical, implementable solutions that
can be put into practice within the production environment, thereby enhancing
operational efficiency and output quality. This approach excludes purely
theoretical research or traditional consulting services.
The program
offers researchers the opportunity to work full-time in factories for a period
of 4 to 6 months, following an implementation plan that begins with factory
integration, followed by an assessment of challenges, and then the development
of practical solutions or prototypes suitable for industrial application.
The program is
based on a comprehensive partnership between an academic institution and an
established Egyptian factory. The principal investigator must be a faculty
member at a public university or a public research center or institute, holding
a PhD in a relevant field. They must be fully committed to working within the
factory for the duration of the program and preferably be at an early stage of
their career. This contributes to building a new generation of researchers
capable of working in industrial environments.
The host factory
must be an Egyptian industrial entity operating within Egypt, capable of
hosting the researcher and providing access to the production processes, data,
facilities, and technical teams necessary for efficient project implementation.
Regarding
funding, the program provides a monthly stipend to the principal investigator
throughout the project period. It also offers the possibility of supporting a
graduate student within the project, subject to approval. This contributes to
developing qualified research personnel capable of bridging the gap between
academic knowledge and industry requirements.
The deadline for
submitting research proposals is June 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
Detailed rules
and conditions for the call for proposals are available on the Authority's
